LIFELABS DATA BREACH CLASS ACTION

LIFELABS DATA BREACH CLASS ACTION
Toronto
February 20, 2020

McPhadden Samac Tuovi has commenced a proposed class action against LifeLabs arising from its data breach in 2019 and not disclosed until December 17, 2019.

LifeLabs has disclosed that it learned of the data breach months earlier and paid a ransom of an undisclosed amount to the intruders.

LifeLabs has also indicated that the data, including medical information, for 85,000 patients in Ontario was taken.

Additionally, it is possible that the records of a further 15 million people, mostly in Ontario and Quebec, was accessed by the intruders.

The records accessed are said to contain information from 2016 and earlier.

The patient information accessed includes name, address, email, logins, passwords, date of birth, health care numbers, gender, phone numbers, password security questions, and lab test results.

If you provided your information to LifeLabs prior in 2016 or earlier then you automatically qualify as a class member without doing more. However, we encourage you to complete the online questionnaire found at this link:

Doing so will provide us with more details regarding the breach and enable us to more readily communicate with you and other class members.

Please note that completing the questionnaire does not establish a lawyer-client relationship with the law firm. Retaining the firm can only be arranged with a written retainer agreement.
